Tonight! ‘It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise’

Tonight HBO airs It’s Me, Hilary: The Man Who Drew Eloise at 9 p.m. EST. The short documentary follows Hilary Knight, the illustrator of Kay Thompson’s popular Eloise books. Actress Lena Dunham — who describes the mischievous Eloise as her “heart’s twin” — serves as executive producer.

KidLit TV caught up with Hilary Knight on the red carpet at the 2014 Carle Honors. Watch Knight’s interview with KidLit TV host Rocco Staino.

And, as is always the case, it’s not what he says that tells the real story, though at age 88, Mr. Knight is still courtly and droll as he describes his fun, privileged life growing up in New York City, the son of two successful illustrators. He never had any doubt about his own vocation. “My childhood was just an incredible adventure,” he says. “Fantasy is probably the most important drive in my life.”
