Katie Davis, author of Kindergarten Rocks!—a book that Georgia’s education department gave to every pre-school in the state— and a spectacular entrepreneur who has sold over 750,000 copies of her books, is KidLit TV’s Featured Expert this month.
Katie is a lively, free-spirited writer who Graduated from Boston University with a photo-journalism degree. She started her entrepreneur journey when she opened her own business called Dirty Dishes, and sold beautiful hand-painted ceramics nationwide. Her business expanded and soon there were order forms piling up, one after another. Her Dirty Dishes business was thriving, but Katie wanted to do more. She licensed her designs and turned her focus to writing.
Katie’s writing career soon took off. Harcourt, Inc. published Katie’s first eight books. Again, Katie branched out and self-published two more books, including a marketing book that hit the #1 spot on Amazon. She was also published by Simon & Schuster in 2011 as an illustrator for her husband Jerry Davis’s book.
Her book, Kindergarten Rocks! is about a boy named Dexter who knows everything there is to know about kindergarten because his big sister, Jessie, told him all about it. Dexter acts like he is fearless but he is a terrified kindergartner who says it’s his stuffed dog, Rufus, who is scared. But though he is scared he’ll soon find out, kindergarten rocks off their socks!
Who Hops? Katie’s next most popular book is about a cow that doesn’t hop to the giraffe that doesn’t crawl. Animals appear on each page and teach children how they do and don’t get around.

Another popular book of Katie’s is Little Chicken’s Big Day that is all about a little chick who wanders off and gets lost, making his day different than any ordinary day.
Katie calls herself a “writerpreneur,” a writer in business helping other writers. She has her own newsletter, marketing courses for writers, and a #1 podcast called Brain Burps About Books. She won the School Library Journal Trailee Award, an award given to the best book trailer, and launched Video Idiot Boot Camp: For People Who Think Videos Are Hard To Create. She knows how powerful the connection between video content and writers is, something which is extremely important to the KidLit TV community. Katie continues to stretch herself by writing and publishing a YA novel, developing courses for illustrators and authors, and starting the first online conference for picture book authors and illustrators.
