Read Out Loud | Freddy the Frogcaster and the Huge Hurricane
After years of being asked to recommend books for children, about the weather, Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean created the Freddy the Frogcaster series to explain meteorology — the science of weather — to children. She wanted a book that was fun and simple but captured the technical aspect of forecasting too.
If your child or student has ever wondered what it’s like to be a weather person the Freddy the Frogcaster series is a perfect way to get them hooked on STEM. Freddy the Frogcaster and the Huge Hurricane is the third book in the series. This time around school’s out for Freddy, which means he’s got plenty of time to spend at the Frog News Network. There, Freddy studies weather patterns and happens upon a hurricane that’s headed to the town of Lilypad. Freddy and Polly Woggins spring into action and alert the town about the hurricane. The town prepares for the hurricane by boarding up windows, creating emergency kits, and heading to the designated shelter. As Polly broadcasts from outside, Freddy takes on the task of watching the bulletins from the hurricane center and updating weather graphics. However, the tide turns and Freddy is given the opportunity to live his dream!

The glossary at the back of the book helps to define words and explains weather in a manner both children and parents can understand. Learning side-by-side is a great way to build a relationship between children, their parents, and educators.
