This April marks the 20th anniversary of National Poetry Month, and to celebrate KidLit TV has joined up with the RhyPiBoMo team for the 3rd Annual Rhyming Picture Book Month. To honor the rhyming picture books that bring the joy of poetry and rhyme into every child’s life, we created a parody of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and Jimmy Fallon’s Classroom Instrument Performances with RhyPiBoMo’s founder Angie Karcher.
So get ready to “Shake It Off” as we celebrate National Poetry Month!
Parody Lyrics to SHAKE IT OFF I stay up too late, got rhymin’ on my brain I shouldn’t write in rhyme! (Wait, what?) I shouldn’t write in rhyme! (What?) But I keep rhymin’ can’t stop, won’t stop rhymin’ ‘Cause the rhymers gonna rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off Non-rhymers gonna smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I’ll never miss a beat, meter’s rockin’ many feet And that’s what they don’t know (mmm), that’s what they don’t know (mmm) But I keep rhymin’ can’t stop, won’t stop chiming Cause the rhymers gonna rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off Non-rhymers gonna smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk ‘Cause they don’t get the way we work, work, work, work. work I, I shake it off, I shake it off Hey, hey, hey, just think while you’ve been writin’ in prose and all the wordy wordy stories people know My new man-uscript is written in rhyme. They’re like “oh my God”, but I’m just gonnashake it And to the fella rhyme geek with the hella technique ‘Cause the rhymers gonna rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme, rhyme. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off Non-rhymers gonna smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk, smirk ‘Cause they don’t get the way we work, work, work, work. work I, I shake it off, I shake it off Write in rhyme!

Author and songwriter Laurel Nakai was a wiz at rebuilding the entire “Shake It Off” song from scratch with her technical software that you can find professional music producers using today.

KidLit TV loves rhyming picture books and even had a few authors who love rhyme as much as we do on our original show Read Out Loud!
