Brain buzzing? Too busy to bee still? Join Dr. Frank Sileo for Read Out Loud as he shares BEE CALM, an introduction to yoga for kids. So, “Find a quiet place. Do a pose. Take a deep breath and see how it goes!”

ABOUT the Book

by Dr. Frank Sileo, illustrated by Clair Keay
In this companion book to Bee Still: An Invitation to Meditation, Bentley Bee loves to fly around and visit his friends in the garden. One day, he notices all of them in unusual poses. What could it bee?
Bentley’s friends teach him several beginning yoga poses including Mountain, Chair, Airplane, Cobra, and more. Readers will love to follow Bentley and try the poses themselves as he gets buzzing all about yoga in this kid-friendly introduction. Includes a Note to Parents and Caregivers with suggestions for introducing children to yoga, and instructions for the poses in the story.

I live in an old market town in Essex called Rayleigh, I work from my small studio at home. Most of my work has been for children’s book publishers in both the UK and the USA but I am spending more time these days on my own projects such as Sherbet Lane.Away from my paintbrushes, you can find me pottering in my garden, taking long rambles in the countryside or shouting my support for The Arsenal from my seat at the Emirates!

ABOUT Magination Press

In 1987, Magination Press® was created out of a desire to publish innovative books that would help children deal with the many challenges and problems they face as they grow up. Written for ages 4 through 18, these books deal with topics ranging from the everyday — starting school, shyness, normal fears, and a new baby in the house — to more serious problems, such as divorce, attention deficit disorder, depression, serious injury or illness, autism, trauma, death, and much more.
Most of our books are written by mental health professionals or those who work closely with them and with children. Our books help children understand their feelings, provide information about the topic or situation, and offer extensive practical coping strategies. A comprehensive Note to Parents is usually included to help guide parents, therapists, social workers, and teachers in using the book. Magination books are not preachy or didactic: They feature sensitive, lively, sometimes humorous writing, along with exquisite, evocative illustrations. They are a pleasure to look at and to read.

Classroom Yoga Breaks: Brief Exercises to Create Calm and Yoga Therapy for Children with Autism and Special Needs is an engaging and fun book and way to introduce young children to yoga. As Bentley buzzes around checking out yoga, he soon realizes how fun and beneficial it can be. As a parent, I also appreciated the Note to Parents at the end because it makes it fun for child and parent to go through poses together. This would be a great addition to all the K-8 media centers in the schools we bring yoga to in Newark. —Debby Kaminsky Founder, CEO (Champion of Elevation Opportunity), Newark Yoga Movement, http://www.newarkyogamovement.org
