For the classroom or bedtime, a podcast is a great choice for so many kids. Therefore, we put together a list of the best podcasts for kids because we love our tech-savvy bookworms!

Play along with ExtraBLURT, an interactive audio game show! Hosts Charlie and Aleah invite you to shout out your answers in a variety of fun-filled games. Each episode immerses you in a different theme, from underwater to outer space to pirates. There are free episodes as well as subscription offer for full access to the podcast. I highly recommend this one to play with family, friends, or even by yourself in the car.

For everyone who loves to explore the mysteries of nature, Earth Rangers is the top choice.  
This podcast is hosted by a wildlife biologist and covers all things nature – the environment, sustainability, animals and more.
Earth Rangers is on its second season exploring the deep jungle, the frozen Arctic and splashing around some wetlands. As climate change disasters are becoming more of an issue, this is a great option to get kids involved in fighting for climate justice.

Goodnight Stories For Rebel Girls

Based on the best-selling book series Goodnight Stories For Rebel Girls, this podcast is full of the same stories about women who inspire us. Sparkle Stories (available on apple is a collection of more than 1,000 audio stories that focus on positive themes such as friendship, empathy, sharing, and being helpful. With simple pastel illustrations and a soothing storyteller, they are designed specifically to appeal to kids who are easily overstimulated.
Most importantly, stories are grouped into collections, each of which follow a cast of characters through a year-long set of adventures.

Tales Untold

Tales Untold is a series of audio stories for preschool-age kids and adults to experience together. Right now there are six series of “tales” on offer.
For example,

  • Radbert: about a 5-year-old monster who lives with a human family)
  • Inspector 9: an adventure story about a parallel universe accessible through a magic bunk bed
  • A Little About a Lot: a nonfiction show about how the world works
  • Dingus Fly, Private Eye: a throwback to 1930s radio detective dramas

Brains On! is an award-winning science podcast for kids and curious adults from American Public Media.
Each week, a different kid co-host joins Molly Bloom to find answers to fascinating questions about the world.  The mission is to encourage kids’ natural curiosity and wonder using science and history.

As an adult, I love hearing the laughter of kids listening to Smash Boom Best. It is a debate show for kids and families from the makers of the award-winning podcast, Brains On. Every episode takes two cool things, smashes them together and let’s you decide which is best. Cats versus Dogs. Pizza versus Tacos. Super Speed versus Super Strength. In other words, it’s wildly entertaining.

Bedtime Explorers

Story Seeds Podcast

The Story Seeds Podcast celebrates the creativity of ALL children by modeling the magic that sparks when diverse authors and children collaborate to grow a child’s story idea into an original story. Each episode chronicles a Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee type field trip between a child age 6-12 and author and a storytime segment. The show is hosted by kidlit maven and uber librarian, Betsy Bird, with theme music composed and performed by Andrew VanWyngarden, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter/musician and co-founder of MGMT.
