Ready Set Draw! Pip from A NORMAL PIG

When some pigs at school point out the things that make Pip different, she feels upset and wishes she could just be normal. But Pip’s parents help her see that everyone’s idea of “normal” is a little different! On this episode of Ready Set Draw, join the author/illustrator of A NORMAL PIG, K-Fai Steele and learn to draw Pip expressing a range of emotions!

We’d love to add your artwork to the Ready Set Draw Art Gallery!

-Colored pencils or markers
-Sketchbook paper

This charming picture book celebrates all our differences while questioning the idea that there is only one way to be “normal.”
Pip is a normal pig who does normal stuff: cooking, painting, and dreaming of what she’ll be when she grows up.
But one day a new pig comes to school and starts pointing out all the ways in which Pip is different. Suddenly she doesn’t like any of the same things she used to…the things that made her Pip.
A wonderful springboard for conversations with children, at home and in the classroom, about diversity and difference.

K-Fai Steele is an author-illustrator who grew up in a house built in the 1700s with a printing press her father bought from a magician. A Normal Pig is her author-illustrator debut. She’s illustrated Noodlephant by Jacob Kramer and Old MacDonald Had a Baby by Emily Snape. She is currently a Brown Handler Writer in Residence at the San Francisco Public Library, and is the 2019 James Marshall Fellow at the University of Connecticut. She was the 2018 Ezra Jack Keats/Kerlan Memorial Fellow at the University of Minnesota.
