Diverse Kidlit Books That Help Us Hold on to 3 Truths

As the calendar flips to September, The MCBD Team can barely believe what has transpired in the last nine months.

In this short amount of time, change has swept the globe in ways we could not have imagined. Even though 2020 has been a year of “traumatic firsts,” there have been many examples of hope, promise, compassion, and camaraderie. And during the past 270+ days, the #ReadYourWorld Team has been holding tight to three truths:

  1. We will get through this.
  2. This is temporary. There will be a day when all of us look back on the recent challenges (and the ones yet to come!) and be in awe that we overcame them.
  3. Humans are resilient. Stretching and growing to accommodate change will only make us stronger.

We, Will, Get Through This

As parents and educators ready themselves to start the unique 2020/2021 school year, online discussions have been focusing on how kids can be better distance learners or what families need to do to shift to a homeschool classroom setting. Curriculum and class time are essential, but we also want to remind caregivers and teachers that supporting mindfulness and mental health in the youngest generation is critical.

With that in mind, here is a great booklist from Melissa Taylor at Imagination Soup that is filled with mindfulness and mental health titles for kids. Check out The Big List of Mindfulness Books for Kids HERE.

This is Temporary

It may be a little hard to believe that someday we will all be able to look back on things like toilet paper hoarding, social distancing, and mask-wearing debates with amazement instead of apprehension, but it will happen! Overcoming difficult situations is in everyone’s DNA, and there have been plenty of role models in our history that supports that belief.

Jodie at Growing Book By Book has pulled together a great list of diverse children’s books about courage and bravery that will inspire kids to face fear and achieve great things.

Humans are Resilient.

Nothing amps up our anxiety levels more than being thrust into new and unfamiliar situations. But as our world learns to shift and evolve with all of the unique challenges that 2020 has handed us, our ability to practice patience and resilience has become our new Super Power. This power needs to be passed on to our kids as well.

Vanessa at BigLifeJournal.com has a list of 30 Children’s Books About Resilience that is broken down by age group.

what an absolutely helpful compartmentalization of the three truths we need to hold up and celebrate. We can remind ourselves of them through books that show resilient protagonists, making the best of a situation and turning it around….using it to empower themselves and others. Thanks for the great curating as always. Sharing.?????✌?
