ALL ABOUT THE DOT and Peter’s CREATRILOGY
The Dot
Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds
Published by Candlewick Press
Vashti is not an artist. She jabs at a blank sheet of paper to make an unremarkable and angry mark. “There” she says. That one little dot marks the beginning of Vashti’s journey of surprise and self-discovery.
Ish
Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds
Published by Candlewick Press
Ramon loves to draw and it makes him happy but, in one split second everything changes. A single reckless remark by Ramon’s older brother, Leon, turns Ramon’s carefree sketches into joyless struggles. Luckily for Ramon his little sister, Marisol, sees the world differently. She opens his eyes to something a lot more valuable than getting things just “right.”
Sky Color
Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds
Published by Candlewick Press
Marisol loves to paint. So when her teacher asks her to help make a mural for the school library, she can’t wait to begin! But how can Marisol make a sky without blue paint?

What a creative post and fun for kids to learn how to draw using a simple dot!
Happy Dot Day! :)
Rosie Russell
Yup! It’s so simple ANYONE can do it. Many kids are shy about their art, so this is a great way to help them express themselves. Happy Dot Day to you too!
Ya she’s correct
My class will be making 16 “polka dot themed” no sew blankets on Dot Day. We will be donating these blankets to our local children’s hospital, along with a copy of “The Dot”, a coloring book for students to “make their mark”, and a box of crayons. We hope to “make our mark” by encouraging sick children to be brave while in the hospital, and let them know that we are thinking about them.
Wonderful! I will show your video to my kids to inspire them.
Happy Dot Day!
Sharpie’s and water colors! Love it! Always seem to teach the kids with crayons and water colors. Going to give the Sharpie’s a try!
Thanks for this video. Excited to share it with my students. Happy Dot Day!!
I love the book The Dot! I love the wisdom of the teacher who encouraged the child with what she could do and look at what the child ended up doing and how the child felt about herself! Simple yet, brilliant!!!!!
Sooo excited! My Dot Day shirt is ready and lessons are on the books! Hooray for creative thinking!
I love Dot Day so much. Any child and make a creative Dot!
Now more than ever it is essential to educate our students on how to make “their” own mark on the world in which we live.
My high school students create their own personally designed dot, it becomes their trademark.
At Cannaday Elementary we will leave our mark by reading The Dot, singing The Dot Song, thinking about the qualities that we need to cultivate in order to make our mark, and of course making all sorts of dots! We will also host a Family Dot Night, where we will create edible dots!
Dot Day is such a fun way to celebrate creativity ishly!
