It’s Women’s History Month!
Women’s History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women’s Day on March 8, and during October in Canada, corresponding with the celebration of Persons Day on October 18.~Wikipedia
Women have always been trailblazers, innovative thinkers, catalysts for change, and rising stars. Women have battled stereotypes, demanded change, raised families, and build major companies. Often all at the same time. Cheers to the women who work to make the world a better place!
Mia at Pragmaticmom has a great list of Women Inventors That Changed the World. “But even in the worst of times, some women’s voices were heard. Picture books are a doorway for young children to walk through and discover a world of possibilities and that is why it is important for writers to give us stories about real women who believed that nothing was impossible if they could imagine it.”
Svenja from Colours of Us also has a great list of 55 Multicultural Picture Books About Strong Female Role Models. We love that this list includes women SHEroes like Rosa Parks and Kamela Harris. This list also includes books that showcase trailblazing Black women in American history like Mae Jemison to Bessie Coleman. There are also plenty of books about the many exceptional women in STEM and STEAM!
This booklist by Melissa Nikohl contains a list of picture books for kids about amazing creative women who are inventors, artists, movie stars, and writers. Check out this inspiring list of women!
