From Kwanza, St. Nicholas Day, and Christmas to Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, Arabic Language Day, and International Migrants Day, there are many, many things to celebrate for the next 31 days.

As a way of recognizing and honoring some of the many observances in December, here are some book lists to encourage important conversations that grow young minds.

Global Holiday Traditions to Celebrate with Books! {part two}

Let's learn more about Arabic Language Day! UN Arabic Language Day is observed annually on December 18. The event was established by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010 seeking “to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization”. December 18 was chosen as the date for the Arabic language as it is “the day in 1973 when the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language”.

We all can learn more about this amazing language and culture with this wonderful list of diverse book recommendations from Pragmaticmom.

“When a country is at war, it’s easy to get a distorted view of the “enemy”. The media also plays a role in showing a certain point of view meant to stir the populace into supporting their government to back the war. But this kind of distortion trickles down to oversimplifying things to a black and white point of view. That never does justice to the true situation and is a hurdle for our kids to overcome in order to get a more balanced worldview.”

Let's learn more about Pearl Harbor Day thanks to this wonderful list of diverse book recommendations from Mia at Pragamaticmom. Not only does she share an exceptional booklist, but she also reveals the personal story of what this day means to her family.

Let's learn more about International Migrants Day! International Migrants Day was created by the United Nations to raise awareness about the challenges and difficulties of international migration. Here are TWO wonderful lists of diverse book recommendations on this topic:
