ABOUT THE BOOK

“Eeeek!”

While Ally is snorkeling in La Jolla, a seal pup tugs on her flipper and changes her life forever. Though frightened at first, Ally quickly notices that the seal is just playing with her. But when Ally sees a group of people taking photos of the seals, touching them, and kicking sand their way, the mother seals flee into the water, leaving their pups alone. With the help of her friends and a lifeguard to move people back, she is relieved that the mother seals reunite with their pups.

“What can I do so this won't keep happening?”

With a passion for protecting her new friends of the sea, Ally realizes that it's up to her to help the seals and bring a voice to the voiceless.

Ally Protects the La Jolla Seals is the empowering story of a young girl taking a stand to save these delightful marine mammals and preserve their home.

This sounds like a wonderful book; will listen to story. I keep hoping that books like these, and environmental songs, will help create little stewards of the Earth, and that we can impress upon kids the importance and urgency of acting & speaking up for conservation. Maybe they will then recognize bad actors and actions, and stay strong against them. This book is a good role model for children. We need more like this. Congratulations Deborah and all involved in the creation of this exemplary book. Best wishes, Annie Lynn

Hi, I’m back….wait…I need another tissue….. so much to be sad about but so much to hope for and fight for. I think many parents that read this to children will feel the sadness bubbling up, as many of us have been fighting for environmental conservation for decades, and now things are getting worse, not better in this new administration. If Casa Beach is a federally protected rookery….it’s in danger now, right? This book is going to be doubly important now, and it will show kids how to RESIST and fight and win. Great to show going to a council meeting….our school system encourages that, and has seen much success in swaying opinion. We even got to name our state animal! Petitions are great! This book shows how teamwork can make the goal(s) achievable. You and your illustrator and publisher should be very proud of this book. I will review on Amazon soon. Congrats again! p.s. one day I hope to visit Casa Beach, and play my guitar and ukulele for the moms and pups, up on the rocks, while watching . l I hope they sing back! Peace, Annie
