Read Out Loud with Stephanie Calmenson HOW TO CHEER UP A FRIEND

What is the best thing to do if a friend isn't quite feeling themselves? To find out, join KidLit TV Sponsor Author Stephanie Calmenson for Read Out Loud as she shares HOW TO CHEER UP A FRIEND, a gentle rhyming picture book that teaches children simple ways they can support a buddy — whether by listening, spending time with them, or offering a big hug.

About the Book

What do you do when your friend feels blue? This gentle and encouraging rhyming picture book tells a story of all the things you can do to help cheer them up.

If your friend is feeling down, do you tickle his trunk to get him out of his funk? Give him a treat—or two or ten? See if he feels better then?

A child and his best elephant buddy navigate the many ways to support a pal who’s feeling sad. They learn that the best ways to help are simple: being there for your friend, listening to their troubles, and then, when they’re ready, offering a big hug.

About Stephanie Calmenson

Stephanie Calmenson grew up in Brooklyn, New York never imagining she would become a writer someday. She began her professional life as an early childhood teacher and had the pleasure of reading to children and discovering which books captivate them. When budget cuts left her looking for work, Calmenson became a children’s book editor and got to see how a book is made.

Planning to go back to teaching, she enrolled in a Master’s Program in Education at New York University where Calmenson took a course called, “Writing for Children.” Her very first story was published in a children’s magazine and she was off and writing!

Check out books Calmenson’s other books, Dinner at the Panda Palace, Late for School!, and Ollie’s School Day to see if they make you smile. Even the nonfiction books, Rosie, A Visiting Dog’s Story and May I Pet Your Dog? have a big dose of humor thanks to their four-legged stars.

What a wonderful way to present this topic especially to young children
however, it can apply to all ages! Stephanie presented her book in such
a delightful way that I am sure whoever reads it, sees it or hears it read
to them will have a warm feeling. As a person who received comfort from
her kindness she truly understands what support from a friend is needed
and appreciated. I also love the pictures! .
A book well worth giving or just reading to children.
