N. West Moss is the author of the memoir Flesh and Blood: Reflections on Infertility, Family, and Creating a Bountiful Life (Algonquin, October 2021). Her essays and short stories have appeared in The New York Times, McSweeney’s, and The Saturday Evening Post, among many other publications. Birdy is her first book for young readers. She lives in New Jersey and teaches at Montclair State University.

About Lloyd Moss

Lloyd Moss, was the classical music guru of WQXR, and by his retirement on Sept. 29, 2006, he was one of the longest-serving classical music hosts in the United States. Like many radio personalities of the era, he worked as a voiceover artist and actor, with various credits in television and radio during the 1970s and '80s. Moss was also known for his eclectic outside pursuits: as a children's author, editorial cartoonist, classically-trained trombonist and even a one-time model. The composer and arranger Marvin Hamlisch wrote a score for orchestra to accompany the book and, in 1998, Moss read his work accompanied by Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Moss went on to write two other music-themed books. Our Marching Band (Putnam, 2001) is a story of young instrument-toting hopefuls who transform themselves into an energetic, smartly uniformed band, while Music Is (Putnam, 2003) uses rhymes to talk about the importance of music.

About Marjorie A. Priceman

Marjorie A. Priceman is an American writer or illustrator of more than 30 children's picture books including two Caldecott Honor Books. Her first picture book, Friend or Frog, was published in 1989, soon after her graduation from the Rhode Island School of Design.
