WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL DOT DAY?
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
And each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you – the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages
re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
Want to make your mark this year and show the world your creative side?

ALL ABOUT THE DOT and Peter’s CREATRILOGY
The Dot Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds Published by Candlewick Press Vashti is not an artist. She jabs at a blank sheet of paper to make an unremarkable and angry mark. “There” she says. That one little dot marks the beginning of Vashti’s journey of surprise and self-discovery.
Ish Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds Published by Candlewick Press Ramon loves to draw and it makes him happy but, in one split second everything changes. A single reckless remark by Ramon’s older brother, Leon, turns Ramon’s carefree sketches into joyless struggles. Luckily for Ramon his little sister, Marisol, sees the world differently. She opens his eyes to something a lot more valuable than getting things just “right.”
Sky Color Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds Published by Candlewick Press Marisol loves to paint. So when her teacher asks her to help make a mural for the school library, she can’t wait to begin! But how can Marisol make a sky without blue paint?

Happy International Dot Day!
Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds The Dot, our Grade 3 artists discovered that creativity begins with a single brave mark. Watching them turn one simple dot into unique works of art was a wonderful reminder that every child has the confidence and imagination to create something special.
The celebration of International Dot Day is a day filled with color, creativity, and fun. Students from the School and Preschool Complex in Kleczew (in Poland) learned the story of Vashti—the protagonist of the book *The Dot*—discussed their own talents, and discovered that each of us is capable of creating something unique.

📣 KIDLIT TV KID QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "I'm so good at drawing." 🍁
We ❤️ this KLTV Kiddo's confident quote on our Ready Set Draw! video featuring Aimée Sicuro showing kids how to create leaf art from her picture book IF YOU FIND A LEAF.
📖 About the book: In IF YOU FIND A LEAF, a young artist gathers colorful, fallen leaves & imagines each one into something new: a Japanese Zelkova leaf becomes a boat; a Honey Locust becomes a swing; and an American Basswood becomes a hot air balloon. Each illustration is made with a REAL leaf! 🍂
