Question: What advice would you give your younger self?
Answer: Yes, writing picture books is hard, but if that’s your dream, go for it! Join SCBWI, learn the craft, seek feedback from other writers and publishing professionals, and persist! It takes time to succeed, but it’s worth it!

Question: What advice would you give your younger self?
Answer: I would tell myself to have fun and experiment more, and not take art so seriously all the time. I know are a perfectionist and along with your upbringing, it is hard to let go. But when you do, sometimes great unexpected things can manifest!
Question: What advice would you give your younger self?
Answer: I wish I could tell my younger self to take risks and follow my dreams of becoming a published writer. For too long, I made excuses for why I couldn’t do it until I finally just went for it. The writing community is so warm and welcoming and writing children’s literature is so much fun. I wish I had started earlier, but I’m especially glad I didn’t let the opportunity totally pass me by.

Answer:Lean into the “weird stuff” you love—it's going to make you a much more interesting person. Don't be embarrassed about being optimistic and starry-eyed about the world. And all that stuff you're worried about? It's going to turn out just fine.
Carrie Finison
Question: What advice would you give your younger self?
Answer: If I could go back in time and give some advice to my younger self, it would be to try more new things and new experiences. You might have fun, find something you love to do, find something you love to eat, make a new friend or two, or grow a skill you never knew you could have. Yes, it COULD also be terrible – but then you’ll have an experience to remember and laugh about (and maybe write about) later on. Also, I want to tell my younger self: Self! Do NOT slide off the front of that playground climber. It looks like fun but you will get seriously hurt! Listen to me, Self!!
